Fay's Bay Accommodation: Quiet-Side Rottnest Island Stays

    Fays Bay beach Rottnest Island

What accommodation is available at Fay's Bay?

Fay's Bay is one of those little pockets of Rottnest that feels a bit more tucked away from everything. It sits on the northern side of the island and is a great option if you want a quieter stay without being too far from Geordie Bay and the main amenities.

Accommodation at Fay's Bay is limited, which is part of the appeal. The main options are:

    • Fay's Bay Premium, 4 Beds
    • Fay's Bay Premium, 6 Beds
    • Fay's Bay Premium View, 4 Beds
    • Fay's Bay Premium View, 6 Beds

These are self-contained holiday units that work well for couples, families and small groups. The biggest challenge is simply getting one, especially during school holidays, summer weekends and other busy periods.

    Fay's Bay accommodation options

The Fay's Bay units come in a mix of 2-bedroom and 3-bedroom layouts, with standard Premium and Premium View options.

    • Fay's Bay Premium, 4 Beds: 2 bedrooms and 4 beds. A good option for couples or smaller families.
    • Fay's Bay Premium, 6 Beds: 3 bedrooms and 6 beds, giving families and groups a bit more space.
    • Fay's Bay Premium View, 4 Beds: 2 bedrooms and 4 beds, with a better outlook across the surrounding coastline.
    • Fay's Bay Premium View, 6 Beds: 3 bedrooms and 6 beds, combining the larger layout with the sought-after view.

There are not many Fay's Bay units compared with some of the bigger accommodation areas on Rottnest, so availability can disappear quickly when popular dates are released.

    Why stay at Fay's Bay?

The main attraction is the location. Fay's Bay is quieter than Thomson Bay and has a much more relaxed feel. It is surrounded by limestone and is generally well sheltered, making it a lovely spot for swimming, snorkelling or just spending a lazy afternoon on the beach.

It also works really well for families. You can enjoy the quieter side of Rotto without feeling completely cut off.

Geordie Bay is close by, so you are still within easy walking or cycling distance of the Geordie Bay General Store and the surrounding precinct. For me, that is one of the best things about this side of the island. You get the peace and quiet, but you are still close enough to grab supplies or head somewhere for a coffee.

    Other accommodation near Fay's Bay

If Fay's Bay is booked out, I would also look at Geordie Bay and Longreach Bay. Both are nearby and offer a similar quieter-side Rottnest experience.

Geordie Bay has a good range of larger self-contained options, including Ocean View and Premium View units. Depending on the property, you can find layouts ranging from 2 bedrooms and 4 beds through to larger 4-bedroom options.

Longreach Bay is another great alternative and also has Ocean View and Premium View accommodation in a range of sizes.

If you are not sure which area suits you best, have a look through our Rottnest Island accommodation guide. It is a handy way to compare the different bays, unit types and layouts.

How hard is it to book Fay's Bay?

Fay's Bay can be tricky to secure simply because there are not many units available. School holidays, summer dates, long weekends and other popular periods can book out well in advance.

That does not necessarily mean you have missed out though.

Rottnest bookings change all the time. People cancel, move dates and change accommodation, which means previously booked-out stays can suddenly become available again.

The problem is that you usually need to be looking at the right time.

Let Quokka Watch keep an eye on Fay's Bay for you

This is exactly why I built Quokka Watch.

Instead of checking the Rottnest booking website over and over again, you can set up a watch for the dates and accommodation you want. Quokka Watch keeps checking for matching availability and sends you an alert when something appears.

It does not guarantee you will get the booking, as availability can still disappear quickly, but it can save you a lot of time and give you a much better chance of spotting a cancellation when it pops up.

If you are trying to get into Fay's Bay, particularly during a busy period, it is definitely worth having a watch running in the background.

Set up a Fay's Bay watch and let Quokka Watch keep an eye on it for you.
