March 2027 Rottnest Open Day: Dates, Restrictions and Booking Tips

March 2027 is shaping up to be one of the busiest months on the Rottnest calendar. Labour Day, the Port to Pub swim weekend and Easter all land inside the same four weeks, and bookings open on a single Wednesday morning in July 2026. This guide walks through the key dates, the restrictions worth knowing about, and how to give yourself the best chance of a stay.

When do March 2027 Rottnest bookings open?

Bookings open on Wednesday 1 July 2026 at 8:30 am AWST through Stay Rottnest. The online waiting room opens earlier, from 6:00 am AWST, but turning up early does not put you closer to the front. Everyone who is in the waiting room before 8:30 am is given a randomly assigned queue position when bookings open.

Once it is your turn, you have a limited window to complete your booking before your spot expires. Stay Rottnest also requires an SMS one-time code to enter the waiting room, so you need a working mobile phone on hand.

Why March 2027 will be popular

Three big-draw events fall inside the same month, which is part of why this Open Day will be competitive.

• Labour Day public holiday: Monday 1 March 2027
• Port to Pub swim weekend: Saturday 20 March 2027
• Good Friday: Friday 26 March 2027
• Easter Sunday: Sunday 28 March 2027
• Easter Monday: Monday 29 March 2027

Important Port to Pub booking rule

If you want to be on the island for the Port to Pub swim, your booking must include either Friday 19 March or Sunday 21 March 2027. A single Saturday-only stay is not allowed for that weekend. Plan your dates with this rule in mind before Open Day, not on the day.

Easter booking restrictions

Easter is a long weekend in WA, and Stay Rottnest applies extra restrictions around it. In practice that means some accommodation has fixed arrival and departure dates, and most stays around the Easter weekend have a minimum number of nights. The exact rules vary by area and unit type, so check the official booking guide for the area you want before you queue.

Other rules worth knowing

• Maximum 14 nights per booking
• Maximum 2 units per transaction
• If you book a second unit, you must nominate a keyholder before arrival
• Self-contained accommodation usually takes a deposit at booking with the balance due before arrival
• Campground and hostel bookings may require payment in full at the time of booking

What to prepare before Open Day

A short checklist that saves a lot of panic on the morning:

• Your preferred dates
• Two or three backup dates
• Your top accommodation areas, ranked
• Number of guests and beds you need
• Payment card ready
• An SMS-capable phone you can receive a one-time code on

Open Day is competitive, and it is normal for popular dates to sell out before everyone gets through. The good news is that Rottnest accommodation is not a one-shot game. Plans change, groups cancel, and dates come back into the system in the weeks and months that follow. Keeping an eye on availability after Open Day can still give you a chance to find a suitable stay.
