Weather and the best months to visit
What each season actually feels like, and which months tend to outperform the rest.
Summer (Dec to Feb)
Hot, dry, reliably sunny, and reliably full. Daytime temperatures sit between 20 to 30°C and the water is at its warmest. If you're planning a summer trip, treat it as a planning project: start early, watch broadly, and consider weekday stays.
Autumn (Mar to May)
The locals' secret. Warm seas, calm afternoons, fewer crowds. Late March and April deliver the best ratio of weather to availability.
Winter (Jun to Aug)
Cooler and wetter, but the island clears out and the cottages take on a quiet, fireside character. Whales pass close to shore. If you'd rather the island to yourself, this is your season.
Spring (Sep to Nov)
Wildflowers, perfect cycling weather, gentle warming through November. Weekends start to tighten as November arrives, but mid-week is still relaxed.
Common mistakes to avoid
Winter is cooler and wetter, but the island clears out and the cottages take on a different, fireside character. It's a genuine option, not a fallback.
October is warming up but the water is still cool and the wind can be brisk. November is when summer really arrives.
January is hot and busy. If a calm holiday matters more than the warmest possible swim, shift a few weeks.
Insider strategy
Late March and April fill in waves. Setting an early watch on a sweet-spot week often surfaces a calm cancellation.
In every season, mid-week stays return to the system more frequently. Build the trip around that if you can.
Frequently asked questions
Shoulder weeks are quietly competitive too. They don't fill on Open Day morning, but they thin out steadily, and a patient watch is the easiest way to catch one without checking the booking page daily.
